About The Adventures of a Traveling Meskwaki

The Adventures Of A Traveling Meskwaki by Oogie_Push, a member of the Meskwaki Nation will be a multimedia, Native storytelling performance piece. Inspired by the actions of the water walkers, Native grandmothers working to protect one of our planet’s most precious resources, Adventures traces Oogie’s travels across North America as she is moved by a vision to cleanse the water after major oil spills. Through her time with myriad tribal nations, she develops simple yet profound healing practices to help heal the water. Using film projection, movement, storytelling, and ceremony, she inspires us to take our own small steps to restore the water and heal the planet.

The Adventures Of A Traveling Meskwaki is recommended for general audiences (PG/PG-13). The running time is approximately an hour and 45 minutes with one 10 minute break between acts. This piece explores themes such as death and boarding schools, and includes flashing lights.

Adventures will be performed at Park Square Theatre, located at 20 W 7th Pl, St Paul, MN 55102.

Parking in Downtown St. Paul can be tricky, especially on game or special event nights. Here's some suggestions below in addition to metered parking on the streets. If you are able, please arrive 30 minutes early to allow for parking.

and on Sunday meters are free.

Those possessing a valid disability plate or certificate (hang tag or placard) may park at any city meter without a fee for up to 4 hours except for those meters marked with a 30-minute maximum.

Meet the Playwright & Director

Playwright and Lead Performer

Oogie_Push (she/her)

Oogie_Push is from the Meskwaki Nation and is currently creating on Dakota Territory, aka the Twin Cities. She is an Actor, Writer, Storyteller, Dancer, Meskwaki Twine Bag Weaver, Production Assistant, and award-winning documentarian. Oogie has performed on stages across the Twin Cities and is grateful to be performing her own stories now. Thank you for being here.

Sara Pillatzki-Warzeha (she/her)

Sara Pillatzki-Warzeha: A theatre director, scholar, and educator, Sara is an enrolled member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate from the Big Coulee District. Currently completing her PhD in Theatre Historiography, Sara's research focuses on intercultural collaborations between Indigenous artists and PWIs, theorizing paths forward for safer, more ethical participation for Native theatre makers who enter into collaborative creative spaces. She currently teaches at St. Olaf College, and has also taught at UMN Morris and Northern State University. She serves on the Native Advisory Council at the Guthrie Theatre and has worked on many Native written or led works as a director, dramaturg, and scholar with companies such as the Jungle Theatre, the Stratford Festival, New Native Theatre, the Guthrie, Stages Theatre Company, New Harlem, UMN, and St. Olaf College. Other favorite directing credits include High Fidelity the Musical (Minneapolis Musical Theatre), 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (St. Olaf College), Fly By Night (Northern Fort Playhouse), and Men on Boats (UMN).
